Vision Statement:
St. Mary's Primary strives to be a welcoming Christ-centred learning community that promotes a quality holistic
education and trusting relationships in a caring and supportive environment.
Acknowledgment of Country: We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land, the Wiradjuri people, who, long before us, lived, loved, educated and raised their children on this site. We pay our respects to elders past and present, and we recognise the young people who are our future. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in our community. We respect their deep physical and spiritual connections to the country through their stories traditions and living cultures.
Character Virtue: J U S T I C E
Justice means understanding the difference between right and wrong and giving fair punishment for wrong actions. It means being reasonable, ensuring that people are treated equally and not just get away with doing bad things. Throughout his life, Jesus taught justice. He fed the hungry, defended the oppressed, loved the outcast, the despised, the rejected and the sinners.
From the Principal
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Week 8!
This is our last week of Eisteddfod; thank you to all staff involved in preparing our students.
Congratulations to Kinder and our Years 1, 3, and 6 students and teachers for their work preparing our students for their Eisteddfod performances. Year 5 has a busy week, with their Eisteddfod performance on Wednesday and their Goldfields Excursion on Thursday.
Thanks to Mrs Nuttall for taking our Rugby Union team to Orange for the regional finals on Wednesday.
Unexplained Absences - We currently have a number of students with a concerning number of unexplained absences. Under NSW Education guidelines, students are marked as unexplained absent ‘A’ after 7 days if parents have not explained. This cannot be changed later. Parents are asked to explain the absence ASAP on Compass when a child is absent from school.
W I N T E R U N I F O R M R E M I N D E R
Mondays: ALL students are expected to be wearing their FULL winter uniform - including ties.
Religious Education
Dear Parents,
Rise - RISE Youth Festival is for young people in Years 6 to 9 (anyone in Years 10-12 can be involved as a youth team member). The Diocesan Youth Ministers facilitate a festival full of fun, friendship, small group challenges, workshops, games, music and lots of opportunities to encounter Jesus. Register HERE.
Rego is open (even though it's not until July holidays) - St. Brigid’s Parish will subsidise the cost to bring the participant's contribution to $50. We'll also try to arrange transport or carpooling.
Meet4Mass - Save the date! Our K-5 classes are invited to join our local parish at St. Mary’s Meet4Mass on Sunday, 23rd June.
Communion Registration - First Eucharist registration weekends will occur on the weekends of 22/23rd of June and 29th/30th of June. Those students who are receiving the sacrament in 2024 will need to attend one of the weekend Masses over these weekends to register.
If you have any questions about the sacrament of Communion, please contact Rosie Hosking via email at sacraments.dubbo@cdob.org.au
Confirmation Liturgy - Last Friday, we acknowledged our Year 6 students with a Confirmation Liturgy presented by Year 5. CONGRATULATIONS!
Gospel Focus: The Mustard Seed (Mark 4:26-34)
Jesus reminds us that every small act of kindness, care and love
grows into a greater presence of God in the World.
ST. BRIGID'S PARISH - MASS TIMES:
St Brigid's: Saturday - 5pm, Sunday - 9am and Sunday - 5pm
St. Laurence's Church: Sunday - 7.30am
Sport
Polding Touch - Congratulations to Max Muller, CJ Gordon and Zara Maas, who were selected in the Polding Touch Trials after representing the Bathurst Diocese at Parkes on Friday. A great achievement.
Diocesan Rugby Union 10s - Best of luck to our Rugby Union team, which will travel to Orange on Wednesday to compete in the Diocesan Rugby Union 10s. Thanks to Mrs Nuttall, who will be our coach on the day.
Good luck to Thomas Alley, Jake Clarke-Lawrence, Brax Cooper, George Finlay, Slater Gray, Vin Grey, Creaden Mallison, Angus McNamara, Max Muller, Jackson O'Connor, Leo O'Connor and Fletcher Pilon.
Athletics Field Events and Skills and Trials Days - In preparation for our School Athletics Carnival on Monday, 24th June, the athletic field event trials will be held on Tuesday, 18th June at Barden Park. Year 2 students who turn 9 this year and are members of the Dubbo Little Athletics Club can compete in the field events. We will need some parents to assist at the Athletics Carnival to ensure it is completed on time. If you’re able to assist, please contact us at school.

ICAS
INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION AND ASSESSMENTS FOR SCHOOLS (ICAS)
Students who have a particular talent in a specific area relevant to the subject nominated in the International Competition are invited to participate in the 2024 International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS), which will be held next term. Competitions are offered in English, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Digital Technology and Spelling.
ICAS Assessments are now online, a move that reflects a sector-wide transition to computer-based assessment. This allows greater accessibility for students and faster delivery of results.
Please Note: Years 3 to 6 students who have a talent in the relevant Key Learning Area are eligible to enter.
We do not promote these competitions as a relevant means of diagnosing and assessing students who do not display a high degree of ability. The content of these competitions does not always reflect our curriculum. We would only encourage students that have the ability to work at a high level of competence in these particular KLA’s.

Attendance
Regular attendance helps students develop discipline and a sense of responsibility. It prepares them for future commitments.
Regular school attendance is a fundamental aspect of character development that prepares students for the responsibilities and commitments they will encounter in various facets of their lives. The habits formed through regular attendance contribute to the overall success and wellbeing of students in both their academic and future professional journeys.
If you are concerned about your child’s attendance you can seek advice from NSW ParentLine 1300 1300 52.
PARTIAL ABSENCES:
Parents must attend the school office to use the Compass Kiosk to complete a PARENT DROP-OFF or PARENT PICK-UP if arriving late or leaving early.
