Vision Statement:
St. Mary's Primary strives to be a welcoming Christ-centred learning community that promotes a quality holistic
education and trusting relationships in a caring and supportive environment.
Acknowledgment of Country: We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land, the Wiradjuri people, who, long before us, lived, loved, educated and raised their children on this site. We pay our respects to elders past and present, and we recognise the young people who are our future. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in our community. We respect their deep physical and spiritual connections to the country through their stories traditions and living cultures.
Character Virtue: K I N D N E S S
Kindness means treating other people nicely - thinking about what's good for them and respecting their thoughts, ideas and wishes. It might mean sharing with them, speaking nicely, being friendly or including them in your friendship groups or games. Jesus always spoke about treating others like we would like to be treated ourselves.
From the Principal
Dear Parents,
We are now in Week 9.
We thank Mr Keady, Miss Herbert and Mrs Sutcliffe for their dedicated work preparing for yesterday’s Athletics Carnival. We also want to express our gratitude to our parents and friends who generously volunteered and supported our children on the day.
Congratulations to Year 5, who had a week to remember last week. On Wednesday, they put in an outstanding performance to come third in Verse Speaking at the Duboo Eisteddfod. They had a wonderful time at their Bathurst Goldfields Excursion on Thursday.
Well done to teachers and students.
Whole School Assembly - Our School Assembly will be held in the School Hall next Monday, 1st July at 1.40 pm. At this assembly, we will announce and congratulate the students who have been awarded a Citizenship Award for Term 2. These students are recognised for their positive attitude, behaviour, working to the best of their ability in the classroom and for the qualities they exhibit as a good citizen, for example - inclusive, respectful, responsible, supportive of peers, helpful, positive attitude, compassion, loyalty, integrity etc.
All parents are welcome to attend.
Semester Reports - Your child will receive a School Report at the end of this term on Thursday, 3rd July, outlining their progress throughout the first semester of the year. Student reports will be loaded onto your child’s Compass account.
Religious Education
Dear Parents,
Rise - RISE Youth Festival is for young people in Years 6 to 9 (anyone in Years 10-12 can be involved as a youth team member). The Diocesan Youth Ministers facilitate a festival full of fun, friendship, small group challenges, workshops, games, music and lots of opportunities to encounter Jesus. Register HERE.
Rego is open (even though it's not until July holidays) - St. Brigid’s Parish will subsidise the cost to bring the participant's contribution to $50. We'll also try to arrange transport or carpooling.
Communion Registration - First Eucharist registration weekends will occur on the weekends of 22/23rd of June and 29th/30th of June. Those students who are receiving the sacrament in 2024 will need to attend one of the weekend Masses over these weekends to register.
If you have any questions about the sacrament of Communion, please contact Rosie Hosking via email at sacraments.dubbo@cdob.org.au

ICAS
INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION AND ASSESSMENTS FOR SCHOOLS (ICAS)
Students who have a particular talent in a specific area relevant to the subject nominated in the International Competition are invited to participate in the 2024 International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS), which will be held next term. Competitions are offered in English, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Digital Technology and Spelling.
ICAS Assessments are now online, a move that reflects a sector-wide transition to computer-based assessment. This allows greater accessibility for students and faster delivery of results.
Please Note: Years 3 to 6 students who have a talent in the relevant Key Learning Area are eligible to enter.
We do not promote these competitions as a relevant means of diagnosing and assessing students who do not display a high degree of ability. The content of these competitions does not always reflect our curriculum. We would only encourage students that have the ability to work at a high level of competence in these particular KLA’s.

Attendance
Being present in class facilitates active participation and interaction with teachers and classmates. This engagement fosters a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
Being present in class is a fundamental component of a comprehensive and effective learning experience. It enables students to actively engage with the learning process, interact with teachers and peers, and deepen their understanding of the subject matter through real-time participation and collaboration.
Class attendance contributes to the development of critical thinking skills. Engaging in discussions and problem-solving activities stimulates cognitive processes, encouraging students to analyse information, make connections, and think critically.
The active engagement that comes with being present in class often leads to increased motivation to learn. Feeling connected to the learning process encourages students to take a more proactive approach to their studies.
UNEXPLAINED ABSENCES:
We currently have several students with a concerning number of unexplained absences. Under NSW Education guidelines, students are marked as unexplained absent ‘A’ after 7 days if parents have not explained. This cannot be changed later. Parents are asked to explain the absence ASAP on Compass when a child is absent from school.
PARTIAL ABSENCES:
Parents must attend the school office to use the Compass Kiosk to complete a PARENT DROP-OFF or PARENT PICK-UP if arriving late or leaving early.
FULL DAY ABSENCES:
A Note should be submitted via Compass for a FULL DAY absence from school.
Reminder: Parents to submit an attendance note within 7 days of absence. Thank you.
