Vision Statement:
St. Mary's Primary strives to be a welcoming Christ-centred learning community that promotes a quality holistic
education and trusting relationships in a caring and supportive environment.
Acknowledgment of Country: We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land, the Wiradjuri people, who, long before us, lived, loved, educated and raised their children on this site. We pay our respects to elders past and present, and we recognise the young people who are our future. We acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in our community. We respect their deep physical and spiritual connections to the country through their stories traditions and living cultures.
Character Virtue: P U R I T Y
Purity means clean and wholesome. Everything we let inside our minds or do to our bodies (i.e. conversation, television, books, food) affects us in a good or bad way. Purity also means being innocent by saying yes to good things and no to the bad and it helps us not do things we regret.
From the Principal
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Week 7.
The Sacrament of First Eucharist (Holy Communion) is the Sacrament at the heart of our faith and gives us our Christian identity. Our Year 3 students, Billy Carter (Year 4) and Zac Jacobson (Year 5) celebrated their First Holy Communion over the weekend. A huge thank you to our Year 3 teachers and Mr Keady, who, as REC, has worked closely with our St Brigid’s Parish to help prepare our Year 3 students.
We thank all the dads who joined us for our Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday. Thank you also to our school staff for preparing and serving our croissants.
It's another busy week ahead. We have NAIDOC celebrations and our Infants' Dance taking place tomorrow, the Netball Schools Cup and Primary School Dance on Wednesday, Year 3 and 4 Excursions on Thursday, and Mary’s Birthday Liturgy on Friday.
School Dances - Our school dances are on this week in our School Hall.
Infants - Tuesday, 6.00 pm - 7.30 pm
Primary - Wednesday, 6.00 pm - 8.00 pm
Students are to have their names marked off on the class list before entering the hall. At the end of the dance, students will not be permitted to leave the hall unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. If your child is to be picked up by another adult, parents are asked to write a note to the class teacher to advise him/her of the alternative arrangements. Parents are asked NOT to stay whilst the dance takes place. You might like to join in the last dance for the evening when you come to collect your child..
P & F Meeting - All parents are welcome to attend our next Parents & Friends Meeting in our school library next tomorrow, 3rd September, commencing at 6.00 pm.
Monday Uniform - Students are permitted to wear their winter or summer uniforms on Mondays, depending on the weather. If children choose to wear their winter uniform, they must wear their tie.
**All students will wear their full summer uniform in Term 4.
Ten Read - Aloud Commandments by Mem Fox | |
1. | Spend at least ten wildly happy minutes every single day reading aloud. From birth! |
2. | Read at least three stories a day: it may be the same story three times. Children need to hear a thousand stories before they can begin to learn to read. Or the same story a thousand times! |
3. | Read aloud with animation. Listen to your own voice and don’t be dull, or flat, or boring. Hang loose and be loud, have fun and laugh a lot. |
4. | Read with joy and enjoyment: real enjoyment for yourself and great joy for the listeners. |
5. | Read the stories that your child loves, over and over, and over again, and always read in the same ‘tune’ for each book: i.e. with the same intonations and volume and speed, on each page, each time. |
6. | Let children hear lots of language by talking to them constantly about the pictures, or anything else connected to the book; or sing any old song that you can remember; or say nursery rhymes in a bouncy way; or be noisy together doing clapping games. |
7. | Look for rhyme, rhythm or repetition in books for young children, and make sure the books are really short. |
8. | Play games with the things that you and the child can see on the page, such as letting kids finish rhymes, and finding the letters that start the child’s name and yours, remembering that it’s never work, it’s always a fabulous game. |
9. | Never get stressed around books. |
10. | Please read aloud every day because you just adore being with your child. |
