RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

While recognising that parents are the first educators of their children in faith, the Primary Religious Education curriculum enables young people to see and respond to God.

In particular, the ‘storytelling approach’ of Godly Play and The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd nurtures the natural capacity that young children have for curiosity, imagination and wonder.

Throughout their primary years, children are invited to reflect on Sacred Scripture, talk with God through prayer, discover the beauty of God’s creation and explore the meaning of symbols and rituals. Above all other things, this is the time when young people come to know how much God loves them and when they are drawn into a love of God and others.

Various events are celebrated during the year. These usually include the Opening School Mass, Lent, Easter, Advent, NAIDOC Week, Grandparents Day, Harmony Day and other days of significance. Parents are welcome to attend School Masses, Liturgies and special religious ceremonies as they occur.
Students in the primary classes have Retreat Day(s) each year commencing in Year 3 with a Friendship Day followed by Year 4 Self-Esteem Day, Year 5 Leadership Camp at Aussie Bush Camps - Tea Gardens, Year 6 Leadership Day in Term 1 and Retreat Day in Term 4 in preparation for High School.

The Sacramental Programs for Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation are very much parish-based, with parents, priests, and schools working closely together. There is an expectation of significant parental and family involvement.
